Originally built in 1937 as a fishing boat by B.J.L ‘Joe Jukes’ in Balaena Bay in Wellington, Wild Duck has gone on to operate as a Trawler in the South Sea as a Trawler off the Chatham Islands, a sea plane refuelling Vessel in Wellington and a regatta committee boat in the Hauraki Gulf before finally becoming an icon of the Bay of Islands, nestled on a mooring in front of the Duke Hotel.

Her journey has been filled with adventure and Kiwi heritage. In 2008, she was purchased by the Tino Rawa Trust and underwent a substantial refurbishment. In recent years, she has been cared for by our local traders in the Bay of Islands and is well known as a real lady of the bay.

Driven by a Detroit 371 85hp engine and an Allison 3.1 gearbox, the Wild Duck is a trawler that embraces the journey. Her simple and robust engineering is a testament to Kiwi Boat Building and provides an exceptional boating experience. Well and truly proving herself as a lady of the sea, Wild Duck is an iconic feature of Russell, and it is with great reluctance that we offer her to the market.
