One Start Line, One Destination - Whangaroa Race Brings Sailors Together

Sailors from across the Bay of Islands will come together once again for the 36 Degrees Brokers and Bay of Islands Yacht Club Whangaroa Race—an event that welcomes both racers and cruisers on a shared sail to Whangaroa Harbour.

Held each year on the 25th of April, the race and cruising rally offers a single start line and one destination, creating a shared experience on the water for all involved.

A key part of the race’s appeal is the destination itself. Whangaroa Harbour provides a sheltered anchorage and a place for crews to raft up and reflect on the day. It’s a chance to connect, share stories, and enjoy the company of others on the water.

This event continues to highlight the growing support for cruising boats and divisions, showing that racing and cruising can go hand in hand in building a strong sailing community.
