PIC Coastal Classic: 36° Brokers Cruising Rally info
15 October 2020 | Beneteau
With just nine days until the PIC Coastal Classic, we're stoked to see a record 26-strong fleet registered for the 36° Brokers Cruising Rally division.
We're looking forward to seeing what outfits our colourful cruisers come up with to contest the 'best dressed' prize, and are excited to follow their progress as they venture up the coast. There's plenty of fun to be had with this division, with one of the main goals being for cruisers to embrace the camaraderie and not take it too seriously.
We've collated some of the key information for this division below.
START INFORMATIONIt's not compulsory - but definitely an option for those wanting to cruise off as part of a fleet. 36° Brokers will be sounding a start hooter, providing cruisers with the chance to head off as a fleet.
The 36° start boat will be an 18m power catamaran called 'Zircon', and will be stationed in the vicinity of Devonport. The start line will be an imaginary line between Devonport and Hobson wharves, and the boat will be stationed on the racecourse side. Warning hooter will sound at 810 accompanied by a 36° flag, and the start at 815 where we'll take the flag down. Cruising vessels can start at any point across this line.
If you miss this – no worries. Just cruise out of the harbour anytime before 0915hrs. Anytime after that, please stay clear of the starting area while the race boats get underway. If the main race start vessel is not on station when you start your voyage, we ask that you make a VHF radio call to Auckland Coastguard advising them of your start in the COASTAL RALLY as per the sailing instructions.
