The PIC Coastal Classic is back this Labour Weekend, and it's bigger than ever!
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the PIC Coastal Classic, which is the most iconic sailing event on New Zealand's East Coast, and the largest of its kind. It's also one of the most popular events on the calendar for Auckland sailors, who use it as a launchpad for their summer cruising season.
The PIC Coastal Classic is an ideal opportunity to get out on your boat and enjoy some competitive sailing while you're still able to control your crew! It's also a great way to get started with racing if it's new to you: there's a division for everyone.
36 Degrees are over the moon to once again be sponsoring the Coastal Classic Cruising Rally. At the end of the day not all yachties are competitive sailors, so this gives cruisers a chance to enjoy their creature comforts while still getting amongst the thrill of the event. We see it as a great way of bringing cruisers together to enjoy the camaraderie amongst sailors while enjoying some slightly slower paced time on the water. The Rally kicks off before the race, so you have plenty of time to take it easy and soak up the atmosphere around you. The option to motor for up to 5 hours is also available to those seeking a more leisurely journey.
Friday afternoon will see competitors departing the vicinity of Devonport Wharf and Orakei, leaving Little Barrier and The Poor Knights to Starboard, to finish off at Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands.
There will be plenty to look forward to including some small competitions to get involved in along the way, a Cruising Rally meet and greets at Hones Garden (hosted by 36 Degrees), prize giving, and a great opportunity to meet other sailors who share your passion for life on the ocean.
Don't delay! Get chatting amongst your cruiser friends and get ready for a stellar race and labour weekend. Let's make this the biggest year yet!
